Police kill homicide suspect in shootout in Geneva

GENEVA, Switzerland – A Geneva police officer has been shot in the face and a homicide suspect shot and killed by officers responding to a call in the Servette-Hoffmann area early Tuesday morning.

Police say the man fatally shot by officers today, might be responsible for the death of his female companion. This would be the first homicide in Geneva in 2016.

Leman Bleu TV, said the incident occurred at around 03:00 today, when the suspect, in his 80s, allegedly got into a heated argument with the victim.

A statement attributed to Geneva police indicates the man shot at the officers as they arrived and was killed by police as they returned fire.

Le Matin, which broke the story says three police officers were shot by the suspect; one of them in the face, but that his injuries are not life-threatening.

The 20Minutes edition indicates the woman was in her 60s, but so far the police report has not been made public.

Last year, there were four homicides in canton Geneva, three of them were domestic related.
