MONTREUX – A story in the Travel section of The Telegraph gently reminded me that we are fortunate to live in a land filled with some of the most incredible fantasy-inspiring castles.
The Telegraph story written to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Fantasia, compares world holiday destinations to classic Disney films.
One of Switzerland’s most iconic monuments, the Chateau de Chillon in Montreux, is said to have inspired a certain princely palace.
According to the article, the 12th Century Swiss castle is the basis for Prince Eric’s castle in The Little Mermaid.
And while it is easy to see the inspiration, there are two things to debate.
First: “Dear The Telegraph, the Chillon Castle is not located in Geneva but in canton Vaud, near Montreux.”
Second: “Dear Telegraph other websites dispute your version.” According to the Rekla Master website, the inspiration for Prince’s Eric castle is actually, Mont-Saint-Michel in France. Mmm… really? I’m sticking with Chillon, and you?
And so, if Disney characters were real, would they live in Switzerland? I guess, I’ll leave that for another post.
Disclaimer: The one at the left, is not the Little Mermaid, but we could argue that Sports Illustrated was inspired by both, the movie and the castle!
Happy Friday.
