What’s on in February in Geneva

GENEVA, Switzerland – “February, twenty-eight days as a rule are plenty. One year in every four, his days shall be reckoned as nine and twenty.” So, what’s on? Here’s my selection of events for what many consider as the last month of winter. Yes!

Concerts & Other Performing Arts, Film Festivals, DJ Shows (mapping)

  • 29 Jan-14 Feb: Antigel Festival. The coolest of all francophone alternative fests in Geneva. Concerts, exhibits, performance art, mapping, roller disco… even wine tasting.
  • 10-14 February: Hommage to Janis Joplin at La Parfumerie in Geneva.
  • 20-28 February: Geneva International Street Dance Festival, Groove ‘n Move Festival. Urban dance, hip-hop fest including workshops.
  • 24-27 March: Electron Festival, Lausanne (electronic music festival).

Classical Music Concerts

  • 7 February: Grand Opera Open Doors Day, Geneva.
  • 15-29 February: Alcina, will be the first Baroque opera to be presented at the Opera des Nations in Geneva (a temporary location next to the UN).

Exhibits (indoor & outdoor) and Conferences

  • 7 February: Free entry to all of the temporary exhibits at public museums in Geneva.
  • 10-12 February: CineGlobe at Lift Conference, Geneva.
  • 11 February: TEDx UN Geneva, scientists and peacemakers in this second edition.
  • Starting on 12 February: Nicolas Lieber, Ceramic Stories, at the Ariana Museum.
  • 17-20 February: Ceramic workshop at the Ariana Museum.
  • Until 21 February: Havana photo exhibit by Didier Jordan.
  • Until 27 February: Sheila Hicks, Farandolo. Don’t miss it, the exhibit takes place in an ancient private residence in Geneva’s Old Town.
  • 28 February: Discover the Meg! A guided tour in English from the Library to the permanent exhibit entitled “The Archives of Human Diversity”.
  • until 28 February: The Disappearance of Africa, a photo exhibit from 1920-1930.

  • 5-13 February: Giant wine tasting and sale at Blandonet Mall in Vernier, Geneva.
  • 7 February: Swiss After Ski fondue at the Stade de Genève.
  • 12 February: Afterwork at the MAH museum. Drinks and art… after work.
  • 12-13 February: Geneva Street Food Winter Market.
  • 20-21 February: Japan Impact (formerly known as Polymanga Festival), it is a two-day cosplay affair for all manga lovers out there.

  • 22-23 March: Grupo Compay Segundo from Cuba.
  • 24 March: Prince Royce, Fulanito, Jay Santos in concert in Zurich. Bachata and more bachata.
  • 26 April: Romeo Santos in concert in Geneva.

Kids & Family Activities

  • 10 February: print making for kids and adults.
  • 10, 17, 24 February: free “snowskate” courses.
  • 13 February: Carnaval aux Bains. The Bains de Paquis is all about the kids.
  • 14 February, 5 March: Kachina, Spirit Dolls from New Mexico and Arizona (USA) for kids & adults. Atelier and exhibit. Inscription required: +41 (0) 22 418 45 55.
  • 6 March: Drums, percussion. Atelier for kids & grown-ups on Sunday.
