Murder-suicide, two people dead in Carouge, Geneva

CAROUGE, Geneva – A third homicide has taken place in canton Geneva, this time in the Acacias/Carouge area, where police reports indicate a man has shot a woman dead in the street, before killing himself.

The incident occurred in rue de la Gabelle and Jacques Grosselin at around 16:00 today 13 May, near the Pervenches School.

This is the third homicide in canton Geneva so far in 2016, and could be related to domestic violence.

Léman Bleu TV has footage of the area still cordoned off by authorities. Residents in the area say to be shocked. No other information is available at this time.

Previous homicide: Italian doctorate student killed in Geneva

The second homicide of 2016 in the canton, took place in the city of Geneva where an Italian student was murdered also in the streets.

According to police versions in that case, a Senegalese man is being sought in connection to the crime.

It is believed the victim knew the attacker whom she had previously described as “possessive”.

Earlier in the year a 80-year-old man was killed by authorities when he resisted arrest after killing his companion.

Police say the number of reported cases of domestic violence in canton Geneva is up 9% for a total of 1,566 in 2014. This number includes 400 cases where violence was used, and three murder-suicides in the 2014-2015 period.

In 2015, there were five homicides, three of them were related to domestic violence.
