Geneva-London New High-Speed Rail Connection

GENEVA, Switzerland – News that the Eurostar (the same high-speed train that connects London to Paris) could soon operate a Geneva-London route via Lille, is cause for celebration among commuters who currently make the journey via Paris.

According to the news released by the train company, switching trains in France will be faster than it currently is because passengers will simply switch platforms at Lille, with a maximum wait of 30 minutes or so.

This does not mean that there will be a unique train connecting Geneva and London without transfers or stops. Only that the trip will shave off an hour travel.

Currently, passengers leaving Geneva change trains and train stations (Gare De Lyon-Gare du Nord) in Paris with a wait of an hour or more.

In the future, Geneva-London will be reached in about 6:15 which is less than the 7+ hours it can take with the changing of train stations.

Eurostar plans to make connections available to Aigle, Martigny, Sion, Sierre, Visp and Brig.

The inaugural trip takes place 14 December operating on Mondays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Tickets go on sale on 9 October.
