HAUTE-SAVOIE, France – This is as bio (organic) as it gets: pesticide-free bananas —so much so, that they were delivered along with the world’s most venomous spider!
The discovery occurred Saturday 3 January in the commune of Passy, Pays du Mont-Blanc in the neighboring department of Haute-Savoie, France.
According to the Dauphine which reported the story exclusively this past weekend, an employee of an organic store in Passy found the armed spider, also known as a banana spider, as he opened a box of bananas that had been shipped from the Dominican Republic.

The man who found the spider seems to have nerves of steel. According to the Dauphine, he managed to subdue the arachnid and placed it inside a vivarium, then alerted the firefighters.
No one was injured and once the armadeira was identified, it was “neutralized” by the chief veterinary officer to avoid any possible dangers.
In 2010, the Guinness World Records named the Phoneutria fera, as the most venomous spider in the world.
Now, let’s check those banana boxes… one more time!
