Shooting in Geneva leaves woman wounded

GENEVA, Switzerland – Geneva police are investigating a Friday afternoon shooting in Plainpalais that left one young woman in a hospital emergency room.

The incident ocurred in a building at rue Gourgas and avenue du Mail.

According to witnesses, two sets of shots were heard at around 16:30. Moments later, several police cars arrived and arrested a young man who surrendered to authorities.

It seems a fight of some sort took place at the sixth floor of a building. A young female student was shot in the abdomen and had to be evacuated through a window.

It is not yet known what caused the incident and whether or not a military-issued gun was used.

Authorities closed off the street for several hours which caused major traffic jams.

Police has not released any further information about the shooting.
