GENEVA, Switzerland – Police in Guatemala have indicated that the body of a Swiss woman, 57, was found on a beach in the Pacific township of Monterrico.
According to a police who spoke with Spanish language news wire EFE, the victim identified as Erika, lived in Guatemala and was visiting the beach town.
The woman suffered numerous stab wounds.
The Swiss Department of Foreign Affairs says the threat of violent crime in Guatemala is high and foreigners can be particularly targeted. It further advises its citizens to stay clear of the Guatemalan border region with Mexico.
