GENEVA, Switzerland – Swiss tennis ace Roger Federer, could add a new title to his long career: Ace of Hearts. In a recent visit to Africa, Federer was visibly moved after meeting some of the children that benefit from three of the educational centers his foundation finances in Malawi .
More than 37,000 kids in that country, and over two hundred thousand in the south of Africa receive access to early childhood education thanks to the work of his foundation and local communities.
The Roger Federer Foundation started the early childhood education initiative in 2011 together with Action Aid Malawi. The program includes “50 model centers and 160 smaller satellite centers in six districts of the country.”
Education empowers children by allowing them to take their future into their own hands and play an active part in shaping it.”
Federer recounted the experience saying he is “proud” to support access to pre-school and other programs in Malawi.
In spite the obvious success of his foundation, it seems Federer is still in the warm-up sets:
At present our work is still in the early stages. We aim to reach a million children by 2018.”
Is Federer the friendliest Swiss ever? I think so, don’t you?
