Strike 3: suspects blow up cash machine in Geneva

GENEVA, Switzerland – The normally quiet Geneva countryside was rocked by an explosion after vandals blew up an automated teller machine (ATM) in the commune of Troinex, today Monday at 02:15.

Police report that unknown persons used a gas cylinder to blow up a Banque Cantonale Genevoise cash distributor and got away in a car with an undisclosed amount.

Geneva cantonal police are currently working with French counterparts in the investigation.

This is the third such kind of robbery in canton Geneva in 2015 but it is unknown if the suspects are part of the same criminal band.

In April, suspects blew up an ATM in Veyrier; days later a second robbery occurred in Carouge, where individuals used a 4×4 truck to pull an automated teller machine from the floor.

The Geneva cantonal police in charge of robberies (Brigade des cambriolages) are asking anyone with information to call 022 427 71 20 or 022 427 81 11.
