GENEVA, Switzerland – In a little more than 24 hours, thieves strike again in canton Geneva. This time in Carouge where individuals used a 4×4 truck to pull an automated teller machine from the floor, looted its cash and set a car on fire before getting away.
According to police, the brazen incident occurred at 4:00 on Monday 20 April, when three masked persons pulled next to a cash dispenser located right outside the Centre commercial de Carouge, and using a tow rope attached to a 4×4 pulled the machine stealing all of its contents.
The thieves left the vehicle in a nearby Coop gas station where they set the car on fire, switched cars and made their escape in a dark colored station wagon.
Firefighters quickly controlled the fire.
It is unclear how much money was stolen or if the suspects are the same who blew up a teller machine in the commune of Veyrier just a day earlier. In that incident, the individuals were seen getting away towards France.
The Geneva cantonal police in charge of robberies (Brigade des cambriolages) are asking anyone with information to call 022 427 71 20 or 022 427 81 11.
