GENEVA, Switzerland – Are you homesick and in need of turkey, pronto? Here’s your guide to Thanksgiving in Geneva, Black Friday (yeap, some are doing it minus the turkey), and Drinksgiving (visiting your local neighborhood bar the night before Thanksgiving which we will skip for this post!)
A Guide to Sourcing Your Local Thanksgiving Feast
If you are reading this post chances are that you are new to Geneva. If that is the case, allow me to give you some unsolicited advice. First, measure your oven up to the heating coil to make sure the bird will fit in your European-sized kitchen stove. Second, turkeys cost twice as much in Geneva as they do in the US; however, they are fresh and you’ll taste the difference (see the label here below).

Turkey
Find yours at,
- Aligro in Acacias, they have mastered catering to hurried US expats (once I ordered mine the afternoon before T-day and got it delivered by 13:00 on time for five hours of cooking!)
- Coop Blandonnet, CoopCity Fusterie and La Praille for pick-up ready turkey
- Manor makes them available on time for Thanksgiving at a price competitive to that of Aligro
- Migros Balexert and La Praille have plenty in stock
- Boucherie Molard, Globus or La Halle de Rive offer more expensive, top-of-the-line options
- Your local butcher, at similar prices – usually takes longer for delivery
- in Nyon Boucherie Norbert Prélaz
- in neighbouring France, Jim’s British Market, E. Leclerc, Intermarché and La Mere Gaud — the latter delivers to Switzerland.
